From Y. & SONS Original Collection
Woven by Nishimura Orimono, the oldest weaving house of Hakata-ori, founded in 1861.
The motifs in this piece is called "Arabesque Chintz" from the "Nabeshima Chintz Sample Book" (collection of Saga Prefectural Museum).
The botanic pattern fills the ground with blooms and foliage. This is considered to be a symbol of prosperity.
This obi consists of many fascinating techniques.
(1) It is woven with the traditional Hakata-ori technique.
(2) There are more warp threads than usual called "uke tate" or "floating warps" are used throughout. Enabling more detailed imagery.
(3) The combination of three types of weaves (flat, twill, and basket) gives the obi a fantastic finish with a slight sheen and incomparable stiffness.
